Wei Yi is a Chinese chess grandmaster and chess prodigy. He earned his grandmaster title at the age of 13 years, 8 months and 23 days, the fifth youngest in history. He was also the youngest player ever to reach a rating of 2700, accomplishing this feat at the age of just 15. In May 2015, Wei won the Chinese Championship to become the youngest Chinese chess champion ever. He subsequently defended the title in both 2016 and 2017. In May 2015 he became the top ranked junior player in the world and he has held the number 1 junior ranking a record breaking 31 times since this date. His first super tournament win was the 8th Danzhou super event, where he finished first a full point ahead of the field.
